C’mon Aussie C’mon C’mon….To New South Wales, Australia

Written by evanbrad on September 4th, 2008

Hi Everybody, hows that for a catchy headline, C’mon Aussie C’mon C’mon did I get your attention or are you thinking Who the bloody heck does this guy think he is, a bloody Aussie or something.

Well you would be fairly close, I am doing a series of articles on visiting Australia especially now that things aren’t looking to crash hot in the US right now. So it makes good sense to utilize a great exchange rate while you can and head off over to Aussie and catch some great pre summer specials.

I am not going to advise any particular air company as you would be best booking something from your end. So i will offer some great places to go see and visit with a bit of local knowledge thrown in, just for good measure.

We all love nice clean lovely beaches and scantily clad females, well some people do, best you check out the glossy travel brouchers for that.

I’ll instead focus more on the down to earth reality of this great country, where there is some real Australian countryside and every day looking people. Don’t get me wrong for those that want the picture perfect Aussie icons I can do a short series on those locations.

That’s if I get some feedback from this blog in the comments that suggest this would be a good option.

As for now I’ll give you a great place to start out on a trip to Aussie that is more real and a true indication of outback Australia.

A place I will suggest is Lightning Ridge in Northern NSW, about 500km inland from the East Coast, south of Brisbane that is in Queensland.

Why would I pick this place you may well ask, here is my reasons;

  1. This is the real Aussie outback
  2. Lots of Old gold mine shafts and mines
  3. Real people
  4. With real Australiana stories and history
  5. Blended with some great Accommodation and Hotels
  6. As scenic as you can get and as flat as you can see.

This is just a fraction of what is out here, and yes I know this is certainly not for everyone, and for those that appreciate the real great outdoors, this part of the country is very unique.

It may take a hardy person to really appreciate this country side but where else in the world can you strip down to your swimming clothes and sit in a big tub with a constant flow of natural warm (some hot) bore water flowing through you hmmmm.
These are known as the “Bore Baths”.

Now I can assure you this may not be in any travel brouchers, and you will need to ask the locals where they are, and I can absolutely assure you this will be a highlight of your trip and a extremely relaxing encounter.

I may track down a photo of when we were there about 10 year ago, and yes they are still in use now-a-days and very popular.

Be sure to ask in the local hotel and to any local you come across about the history of gold mining and panning.
The other interesting topic to talk about is the Strike days of the sheep shearing industry in 1983.
Mention Neil Ellery and Co and be prepared for some very interesting stories. Some may seem very outrageous and I can assure you if you send me the stories you hear I will clarify there truth. Trust me these stories will be very unbelievable, however let me know and I’ll fill you in as I was there in 83, 84.

Enough for now catch you on the next round.

Cheers
